A pregnant woman was killed and two injured in a double shooting in Newport News, Virginia.

According to Newport News police, at the incident they found a car with a man and woman including a one-year-old infant. The woman was shot in the chest as she drove down the street.

The woman was identified as Tiara Jefferson, 20, and was 15 weeks pregnant.

The infant was not hit by attacked by gunshot and the man is under care with minor injuries.

“The incident marked the city’s eight homicide in 2018, which is higher than this time last year. It’s a sad situation. With any homicide it is sad. But you have a pregnant woman and her child in the backseat of that card. It’s awful and it’s gotta stop,” said Newport News Police Spokesman Brandon Maynard.

Neighbors in the area were heartbroken by the loss. “I’m just thinking how sad it is and what her family has to go through. How are they going to explain to the child as she grow older,” said Lavonda Lewis.

The investigators and forensics spent hours at the incident for gather evidences.

Maynard said, no suspect is identified and no information is available till now.
