The annual Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Luncheon is scheduled for 2 p.m. on 22nd April at the Oak Hill Holiday Lodge. The interracial luncheon is sponsored by a teacher organization, called Fayette County Black Caucus. The guest speaker for the event is Toinette Nicole Jenkins, first lady of the West Virginia State University. Jenkins earned her Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice from the Shaw University in Raleigh, N.C. She obtained a master’s degree in public policy and administration from the Virginia Tech. Also, she is a certified criminal analyst and has served on the local, state, and also federal task forces providing critical criminal intelligence for the police departments, DEA, FBI, ATF, ICE and also a host of others in the fight against gangs, drugs, robberies and homicides.
Jenkins is married to Anthony Jenkins, president of the West Virginia State University. They have two daughters, Ashley and Alicia, and also a dog, AJ.
First Lady Jenkins is a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. She has a passion not only to give back to the community in which she serves but also to make each community that she passes through better. The ultimate motto in her life is to lead by example, for it is through hard work and also dedication that nothing is impossible for you to achieve but you just need to roll up your sleeves and do the work.
