International travel preparation often raises a crucial question - what changes have been made to visa rules this year? Countries often adjust their visa regulations, document requirements, and application methods to handle the increased number of travelers. For those traveling from India, 2026 has already seen various updates impacting different locations. From online visas and programs for student movement to new rules for making appointments, these changes may influence how and when you submit your visa applications. Below are five key visa changes that Indians should note while planning travel abroad in March 2026. Here are the updates:

UK Shifts To A Completely Digital E-Visa System: The UK has moved to a fully electronic visa system for travelers, including those from India. As of 25 February 2026, visas are provided digitally rather than being attached to passports. With the new method, travelers must set up a UKVI account to check and manage their visa information online. The overall visa application method hasn't changed, but applicants no longer need to present their passport for a visa sticker. This change is part of the UK's larger initiative to upgrade border control systems and transition to a completely digital immigration procedure.

Japan Visa Applications In Certain Indian Cities Now Require Appointments: Indian citizens seeking a Japan visa at specific centers must now make an appointment before going to the application center. Starting 2 March 2026, this regulation will apply at VFS centers in Chennai, Kochi, Hyderabad, and Puducherry. Applicants can see available appointment slots only after entering their information online and securing a booking ahead of time. Previously, many applicants could walk in and hand over their documents directly. This adjustment aims to reduce crowding and make the visa submission process more efficient.

France Plans Simpler Student Visa Options For Indians: France is intent on greatly increasing opportunities for Indian students in the next few years. This initiative follows talks between Narendra Modi and Emmanuel Macron during Macron's visit to India in February 2026. France is targeting an increase in the number of Indian students studying in the nation to 30,000 by 2030. To reach this aim, officials are focused on simplifying visa processes, reducing waiting times, and enhancing opportunities after graduation. They are also considering a possible trial for visa-free transfers at airports, which could simplify connecting flights through French airports for Indian travelers.

Sri Lanka Unveils A Visa For Digital Nomads: Sri Lanka has created a visa for digital nomads that permits remote workers, including those from India, to reside in the country while being employed by companies or clients from other nations. This visa enables qualifying individuals to remain in Sri Lanka for up to a year, with a chance to extend it each year. To be eligible, applicants must be at least 18 years old and have a monthly income of at least $2,000 while working for organizations outside of Sri Lanka. People can apply online via the immigration website of the country.

VFS Global Moves Visa Center In New Delhi: Those applying for specific European visas in Delhi should be aware of a new location. Applications for countries such as the UK, Ireland, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Malta, Norway, Slovenia, and Sweden are now being handled at a different VFS center in Connaught Place. Starting from January 12, 2026, the application and passport pickup for these countries have been relocated to VFS Global House, 27 Kasturba Gandhi Marg, New Delhi. The new center is anticipated to enhance processing capabilities and reduce crowding during busy travel seasons.

Visa-Free Entry For Indians To Armenia: Armenia has enacted a temporary policy allowing certain Indian citizens to enter the country without a visa in 2026. Holders of Indian passports with valid residence permits from the US, EU, Schengen countries, or GCC nations, such as the UAE, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, can travel to Armenia without a visa for a duration of up to 180 days from January 1 to July 1, 2026, as long as their permits are valid for at least six months.

So, before you finalize your flight arrangements and places to stay for upcoming trips, consider these significant updates to help you prevent unexpected issues.
